MTV Movie Award’s Red Carpet

This weekend I was lucky enough to grace the MTV Movie Award’s red carpet with my presence! It was such an awesome experience. I was able to get tickets through one of my favorite websites 1iota, which you all should check out. I’ve been to other shows they’ve organized the audience for as well.

Overall, going to any sort of live event is a long, but fun day. If I have any advice – wear comfortable shoes and eat before you come! Usually in red carpets or studio audiences there isn’t any time to eat, go to the bathroom, etc. So plan accordingly and know how long you’ll have to be there for.

The pictures below will help you “experience” the red carpet with me. Enjoy all the celebrity shots – my favorite was definitely the Backstreet Boys (I will always be a fan)!

What I’m Packing for Coachella: Beauty

Below is what I plan to pack for Coachella this weekend (or items that are very similar!)

Overall, I’m keep my makeup simple – tinted moisturizer, mascara, liner, brows, and bronzer. I know I will probably end up sweating most of it off – so what I am packing is long-lasting! I’ll also be finishing my makeup off with my setting spray from Urban Decay.

I plan to pack lots of sunscreen, baby wipes, chapstick, medicine, kleenex, hand sanitizer, and toiletry essentials. I’ll be packing curly hair products that will tame against the heat along with some UV protectant spray to shield my highlights and coloring from the sun. I’m packing a small first aid kit (because I like to be over prepared), hair elastics, and ear plugs just in case my sensitive ears can’t take the craziness that is Coachella. I’ve heard if you have contacts, eye drops are a must with the sand storms in the desert as well. Happy packing fellow festival goers ;)

What I’m Packing for Coachella: Fashion

Below is what I plan to pack for Coachella this weekend (or items that are very similar!)

Overall, I’m going with a very practical yet stylish look. I plan to style some unique jewelry into my look along with some hats, which isn’t usually my style. For footwear, I’m being very comfortable and have heard sandals are a terrible option in the desert. Most of my clothing items feature high-waisted shorts, crop tops, bandeaus, and flowy shirts. I plan to take a cute backpack each day as well. I’m also taking some sort of jacket as the nights get cold I’ve heard as well.

Stay tuned for “What I’m Packing for Coachella: Beauty”! I’m counting down the days until the festival for Weekend 2! I will be sure to have a detailed post after Coachella describing what I wore and my experience.

How To Clean Your Makeup Brushes

Cleaning your makeup brushes often is essential! Bacteria can quickly build up on your brushes, and you don’t want to use dirty brushes on your face. I recommend cleaning all your brushes (eye and face) at least once a week. It will be will worth it and help prevent acne breakouts.

After you’ve gathered up all your dirty brushes, you’ll need a brush cleanser. I find the best soap is just your basic antibacterial version from Dawn, other speciality “brush cleaners” are overpriced in my opinion. Multiple beauty gurus have recommended this product, and I couldn’t agree more! Getting the antibacterial version is most important.

Pour a little bit of the soap onto a flat plate or bowl. Then, you’ll need to wet your brush – always keeping the brush facing down! Never hold the brush upright during the entire cleaning process.

Next, swirl the brush in your soap – making sure to completely cover the entire brush head.

Swirl the brush head in your CLEAN HANDS to clean out any makeup residue. You can combine a little water to make the brush more soapy. Be sure to get every angle of the brush ensuring it’s thoroughly cleansed.

Next, rinse the brush under running water – during this whole process you’ll want to keep the water at a lukewarm temperature. Be sure that all the soap is rinsed out.

With a dry towel squeeze out as much of the excess water as you can. You want to keep as much water away from where the brush hairs connect to the brush handle. Otherwise, you’ll break the glue bond. That’s why keeping the brush face down is so important while cleaning your brushes.

Lastly, dry your brushes by hanging them over the counter on top of a dry towel. This will ensure that your brushes dry evenly and be ready for use. You never want to dry your brushes right side up as the glue bond will eventually break down, ruining your brushes.

What’s in My Lucky FABB Gift Bag?

See what’s inside my Lucky FABB gift bag from the conference in LA this past week! Everything featured in this video was a part of the gift bag given to me by Lucky Magazine and its sponsors.

Lucky FABB West 2014 Brunch

Day 2 of Lucky FABB was full of sunshine, brunching, networking, and gifting. If you want to learn more about my Lucky FABB Conference, see my Day 1 post. I enjoyed meeting other bloggers as I’ve heard at previous conferences that haven’t always allotted that dedicated time.

The best part of the morning was getting to meet Eva Chen, Lucky Magazine Editor in Chief! She was such an awesome host for the conference and really inspiring to do what you love no matter what anyone thinks. She was also always fabulously dressed and so down to earth. She even remembered seeing my picture on Instagram the day prior – so obviously my day was made :)

My brunching footwear was no surprise by Jeffrey Campbell - I love these zip up, nude snakeskin heels!

Lucky FABB West 2014 Experience

This weekend I was lucky enough (no pun intended ;) ) to be invited to Lucky FABB in LA at the SLS Beverly Hills Hotel! This is a national conference for fashion and beauty bloggers. I’m a contributor on the Lucky FABB network, which is how I found out about the opportunity.

During the conference, I got to network with lots of other bloggers, learn to be a better blog, and hear industry experts speak. It was so nice to be surrounded by like-minded individuals who share a similar passion of mine.

Continue reading to see what I learned, what I wore, and who I saw!

There was a tremendous amount of information at the conference, but I left FABB with several key takeaways:

  • The future of blogging is mobile.
  • You can’t be a people pleaser as a blogger and cater to everyone.
  • “Activation is the new black” – there is an art and science to every blog, the science aspect is how you activate your brand.
  • #GirlBoss
  • Be positive, but realistic.
  • The ultimate form of leadership is empowering other women.
  • You have to have a sense of humor about fashion – everyone will look back at themselves in 10 years and laugh.
  • Blogs fit the discovery phase of online shopping.
  • Organic search results are key! They represent 94% of Google clicks.
  • Google Analytics, Google Analytics, Google Analytics *music to my market research ears*
  • You are very powerful behind the keyboard.

Sophia actually has a book coming out soon, Girl Boss, which I am very excited about! I love the Nasty Gal clothing brand, and it was interesting to hear how she got her start. I found out her favorite people to follow on Instagram are Snoop Dogg and Lena Dunham. She also enjoys the Wow Facts of Life Twitter account.

Event #6 Brand Experiences

There were lots of brands networking with the bloggers and telling us about their new offerings. Some of the experiences included P&G beauty booths, Caravelle New York, Pressed Juicery, Poshmark, Lucky Breaks Live, SimpleHuman, The Brave Collection, and Wendy’s new salad collections.

Nicole was so inspiring to listen to! I walked away from the conference loving her even more. I learned all about her new garden and how she gardens in a Chanel fanny pack… “Fanny packs are DOPE” as she would say. She relayed that you have to have a sense of humor about fashion and the ultimate form of leadership is empowering other women. She also joked how she wanted to open a restaurant called, Nicki Fresh with 90s hip hop and fresh veggies from her garden — I’d be first in line!

In Next Level Style, I got to hear tips and tricks from Celebrity Stylist Heidi Bivens, Supermodel Karolina Kurkova, and Song of Style Founder Aimee Song. I learned Karolina’s style must have’s are sneakers, classic pumps, a white button down, and a great cross body bag. Aimee’s must have is an awesome biker jacket!

I also got to meet my favorite YouTuber, Ingrid Nilsen of Miss Glamorazzi! I felt like such a fan girl, but learned so much from her on how to shoot the best videos.

Event #10: A Style Conversation with Supermodel, Coco Rocha

She stated “there are 2 things I don’t believe in: trends and selfies” (!!) haha. She believes bloggers should feel very empowered, and we have a great deal of power behind our keyboards. Eva Chen filled us in about her favorite trends of the moment including crop tops and frumpy shoes.

Stay Tuned for Day 2 of my experience along with a video of what I got in my FABB gift bag! :)
