So I may be biased, but this is my all-time favorite chili recipe from my mom’s kitchen. It’s her secret recipe that I want to share with you all today. This is the perfect meal for a cozy day when you’re all cuddled up inside or a lazy football Sunday. This recipes makes about 8 servings so invite friends over or plan for leftovers! My mom’s chili recipe reminds me of when the season turns to fall, the leaves change colors, there’s a crispness in the air, and the smell of firesides.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 1 lb. lean ground beef or ground turkey (whatever your preference – they both taste great)
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 46oz cans tomato juice
- 1 16oz light red kidney beans, drained
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 2 packages original chili seasoning mix (I usually get the low sodium version)
- 1 box of elbow macaroni
- chili powder for added spice
- oyster crackers
Here’s how to make it:
- Brown 1 lb. ground beef or turkey with 1 medium sized chopped onion. Drain and blot.
- Put together with 2 large cans of tomato juice, 1 can light red kidney beans (drained), 2 tbsp brown sugar, and 2 packages of chili seasoning mix in a large stove pot.
- Bring to a boil and add 6-7 handfuls of elbow macaroni. Stir and reduce heat to simmer for at least an hour (more time will intensify the flavors) while stirring periodically.
- Cover the stove pot with a lid slightly ajar while cooking.
- After cooking on simmering, if chili seems soupy, let it breathe for a while without lid.
- Serve with chili powder (if desired) and oyster crackers.

Love ice cream or frozen yogurt desserts? Then this next installment of “Quick Eats” is the perfect recipe for you! We’re going to make a healthy, homemade ice cream using only one ingredient, bananas. I’ve jazzed mine up with a few additions, but feel free to leave them out for a healthier alternative.
Take some ripe bananas and slice them up. I’d recommend 1 banana per ice cream treat. Let the bananas sit in the freezer on a plate for a few hours. Some wax paper would be even better if you have it to allow for easy removal. Take out your banana slices and chop them up in a food processor. You’ll probably need to mix the bananas around with a spoon in between to ensure it comes out nice and creamy.
For extra flavor and creaminess, I added 1 tablespoon of Coffee-mate’s Natural Bliss per banana in the food processor. Below are some other ideas to dress up you ice cream. You can use cocoa or strawberry powder, peanut butter, chocolate spread, etc. We ended up choosing strawberry powder to make the perfect Banana Strawberry treat!
Voila, enjoy your banana ice cream and please send me pictures if you make this yourself! :)
The perfect hair care products can be very elusive… Until now. I’ve discovered the very best hairspray for any hair type. L’Oreal Elnett Satin Hairspray is my absolute new favorite. Try this and you’ll never use anything else!
It gives the perfect amount of hold without stiffening your hair too much. It comes in a few different options, and picking the right variety is key to satisfaction. At first, I was using the “Strong Hold” variety, which didn’t give me enough hold. I’ve recently switched to the “Extra Strong Hold” and it’s perfect for girls that need a little extra control for their locks.
I would recommend the standard Strong Hold for anyone with a normal hair type (I think Strong Hold would work best for 90% of people with straight hair). Only invest in Extra Strong Hold if you have unruly hair. It’s also nice that the Extra Strong Hold comes with a UV Filter. I’m not sure why the Strong Hold doesn’t, but it should!
According to L’Oreal, “Elnett Satin is the legendary hairspray of choice for red carpet events and cover photo shoots. Its micro-diffuser spray offers a clean, soft shiny finish. So fine, it disappears at the stroke of a brush. So strong, its hold lasts all day.” – Most of the Real Housewives even use this product! :)
You can check out the full line of Elnett’s hairsprays on L’Oreal. It comes in scented/unscented along with a voluminous targeted option.
